Good morning.
Thanks for staying with us in a week when the policy spin level emoji tipped into cyclone🌪 level. We always knew the day would come, although I did think it would be a little closer to the federal election.
We hit a more important milestone this week with the hire of our first policy reporter. Sophie Boot joins us from across the ditch, where she was a reporter for Wellington-based BusinessDesk, which is New Zealand’s biggest business news wire.
Sophie has covered markets, courts and parliament, and will soon takeover our daily introductory energy newsletter. Next year she’ll be covering policy coming out of state and federal parliament, and the energy sector more broadly.
Right now, she’s busy reading the dozens of energy policy reports and reviews that you thought were collecting dust on the internet, but that will help her figure out the right questions to ask. As an editor, I was reassured by her astute early take:
“It’s a bit of a mess, isn’t it?”
If you’ve just joined us, last weekend I shared a bit of detail on what we’re about. Please keep sharing your thoughts and letting others know about us. We don’t take having a direct line to your inbox for granted, so tell us what you like, and what you don’t.
